3, 6 & 36 - a wee piece of theatre

Commissioned by Creative Scotland as part of the Culture 2014 programme, "3, 6 & 36" was a theatre production that my kids and I created to tell the story of that magical summer when the sun shone and the Commonwealth Games landed on our doorstep.

We were aged 3, 6 and 36 at the time.  Looking back, what was I thinking, making professional theatre with my own tiny kids?!  But it worked.  It was a lovely little show, and others agreed too.

It was performed in the Citizens Theatre Circle Studio in October 2014.

"The show that emerges is really the most glorious hymn to the pure joy of motherhood" ★★★★ THE SCOTSMAN

"It takes a performer in a thousand, though, to realise that two little lads as young as Ben and Ollie are perfectly capable of rehearsing, learning and performing a gorgeous 50 minute show" ★★★★ THE SCOTSMAN

"Sarah Longfield adores her gorgeous boys and it's impossible to resist a show that reveals an outwardly ordinary woman so transfigured by love and joy." ★★★★ THE SCOTSMAN

"Yet this beautiful little show also tells us a great deal about the Games, and about the strange, transforming summer through which Scotland has just lived. And it's inexpressibly moving to hear that summer described in the small, joyful voices of the generation that have most to gain and lose, from the decisions we make each day." ★★★★ THE SCOTSMAN

"merrily engaging little show" ★★★ THE HERALD

"Longfield's astutely structured production becomes a nicely thoughtful reflection on what the whole Culture 2014 / Commonwealth Games extravaganza amounted to when seen through the eyes of a child." ★★★ THE HERALD

Some audience feedback:

“The most enjoyable theatrical experience I have ever had.  So funny, sweet and touching, your wee monologue at the end made me cry, so honest and beautiful.  Thank you for making my week”

“We can’t stop talking about it”

“My Ben was particularly impressed with the sofa… he asked if we can get one like that in our house!”
